Honda Civic

The Honda Civic is a compact automobile manufactured by Honda since 1972.

Honda began production in Japan in July 1972 with a two-door coupe powered by a 1,169 cc four-cylinder engine, soon adding three-door and five-door hatchback, sedan, and station wagon styles. The original model drew wide attention during the 1973 oil crisis for its fuel economy and compact size. In 1975, Honda introduced the Compound Vortex Controlled Combustion engine, which met the United States Clean Air Act standards without a catalytic converter. The Civic was Japanese Car of the Year from 1972 to 1974, and the 2006 model won both North American Car of the Year and Motor Trend Car of the Year. The model line has passed through eleven generations, with North American assembly starting in Marysville, Ohio, in 1986.

With Team Dynamics, the Civic won the British Touring Car Championship manufacturers' title in 2010, 2011, and 2012. The team also took the drivers' title with Matt Neal in 2011 and with Gordon Shedden in 2012, 2015, and 2016. The Civic Type R set front-wheel-drive production car lap records at the Nürburgring Nordschleife in Germany in 2017 and again in 2023.

Honda introduced the Civic Type R in 1997. The eleventh-generation Type R hatchback used a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine producing 235 kW (315 hp), with a 0-100 km/h time of 5.4 seconds and a top speed of 275 km/h (171 mph). By 2021, Honda had sold more than 27 million Civics worldwide.
