Ford Mustang

The Ford Mustang is an American sports car produced by Ford since 1964.

Ford introduced the model at the New York World's Fair in April 1964, starting the pony car segment with a long hood and a short rear deck. Early buyers chose between coupe and convertible bodies, and a fastback arrived for the 1965 model year. The car sold more than 400,000 units in its first twelve months on the market. Well-known body eras include the Fox-body series built from 1979 to 1993 and the retro-styled cars produced from 2005 to 2014. The seventh generation arrived in 2023.

Steve McQueen drove a Highland Green 1968 Mustang GT fastback through the streets of San Francisco in the 1968 film Bullitt. On the track, Carroll Shelby developed racing versions that won the SCCA B-Production national championship in 1965. Factory-backed cars also won the Trans-Am series titles in 1966, 1967, and 1970. Later factory programs raced the Mustang in Australian Supercars, the NASCAR Cup Series, and international GT3 endurance events.

The first cars offered an inline-six or a V8 engine. The 2020 Shelby GT500 delivered 567 kW (760 hp) from a supercharged 5.2-liter V8, reached 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.5 seconds, and had a limited top speed of 290 km/h (180 mph). Ford marked the production of the ten-millionth Mustang at the Flat Rock assembly plant in Michigan in August 2018.
