Nissan GT-R

The Nissan GT-R is a Japanese sports car produced by Nissan from 2007 to 2025. Unveiled as a production model at the Tokyo Motor Show in October 2007, the two-door coupe has a 2+2 seating layout and all-wheel drive. Kazutoshi Mizuno served as the chief engineer throughout its development.

Hand-built twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter six-cylinder engines supplied power to the coupe across its entire production run in Kaminokawa, Tochigi. Early 2007 editions produced 353 kW (473 hp), which stepped up through multiple revisions to 419 kW (562 hp) on standard versions and 441 kW (592 hp) on Nismo editions. Engineers positioned the dual-clutch transmission at the rear axle to balance vehicle weight between the front and rear wheels. Drivers selected adjustable suspension modes through dashboard switches designed in partnership with video game developer Polyphony Digital.

Testing at the Nürburgring Nordschleife in Germany delivered a lap time of 7 minutes 26.7 seconds in April 2009. Racing derivatives entered the Super GT championship in Japan, where drivers Satoshi Motoyama and Benoît Tréluyer secured the GT500 drivers title in 2008. Additional motorsport entries competed in the FIA GT1 World Championship, earning the team championship with JRM Racing in 2011. An endurance version won the Bathurst 12 Hour race in Australia in 2015, driven by Katsumasa Chiyo, Wolfgang Reip, and Florian Strauss.

Automotive journalists recognized the vehicle with the World Performance Car award in 2009 and the Motor Trend Car of the Year award in 2009. Cinema audiences watched the car in the 2011 film Fast Five, where character Brian O'Conner drove a silver edition. Global buyers purchased more than 40,000 units before Nissan concluded manufacturing in 2025. Italian design firm Italdesign collaborated with Nissan in 2018 to build a limited run of fifty special coachbuilt editions celebrating fifty years of the badge.
