Alfa Romeo Giulia

The Alfa Romeo Giulia is an Italian sports sedan built by Alfa Romeo from 1962 to 1978 and again from 2015.

Chief engineer Orazio Satta Puliga led the development of the original model. Introduced at the Autodromo Nazionale Monza on 27 June 1962, the four-door sedan stayed in production until 1978, first at the Portello plant in Milan and from 1965 at Arese. A notchback body with a cut-off tail and curved glass lowered air resistance. Mechanically, the sedan brought a five-speed manual gearbox and front disc brakes to family transport. The TI Super racing version delivered 82 kW (110 hp) and reached 185 km/h (115 mph), and Giulias won touring car races across Europe.

Italian state police and the Carabinieri used the sedan as a pursuit car during the 1960s and 1970s. The car also served as the basis for the Sprint GT coupe and the Spider roadster. In 2015, Alfa Romeo revived the nameplate as a modern rear-wheel-drive executive sedan with double-wishbone front suspension, built at the Cassino plant in Italy.

The high-performance Quadrifoglio version has an active carbon-fiber front splitter, a top speed of 307 km/h (191 mph) and a 0-100 km/h time of 3.9 seconds. In September 2016, it set a lap time of 7 minutes and 32 seconds on the Nürburgring Nordschleife. In 2018, the Giulia won the Compasso d'Oro industrial design award and the Motor Trend Car of the Year title.
