Bugatti Chiron

The Bugatti Chiron is a French mid-engine sports car manufactured by Bugatti from 2016 to 2024. Assembled in Molsheim, France, the vehicle takes its name from Monégasque racing driver Louis Chiron, who scored grand prix victories for the marque during the 1930s. Bugatti capped total production of the two-seat coupe at 500 units.

Bugatti revealed the car at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2016 as the successor to the Veyron. Design director Achim Anscheidt shaped the body with a prominent central fin that recalled the 1936 Type 57SC Atlantic, along with a sweeping side curve framing the cabin. The powertrain features an 8.0-liter sixteen-cylinder engine with four turbochargers, which in base configuration produces 1,103 kW (1,500 hp) and propels the car from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 2.4 seconds. Specialized derivatives followed, including the track-oriented Chiron Sport in 2018 and the handling-focused Chiron Pur Sport in 2020.

The model set historic benchmarks for straight-line velocity and braking. In August 2017, former Formula One driver Juan Pablo Montoya completed a 0–400–0 km/h acceleration and braking test in 41.96 seconds at the Ehra-Lessien proving grounds. On August 2, 2019, British test driver Andy Wallace drove a modified Chiron Super Sport 300+ to a speed of 490.48 km/h (304.77 mph) at the same facility, making it the first production-based sports car to exceed 300 mph. That milestone inspired a limited run of 30 production units built to matching aerodynamic specifications.

Critical reception included the Hypercar of the Year award from Top Gear magazine in 2016. In 2018, Bugatti partnered with Lego to build a full-scale drivable model containing over one million interlocking pieces, which test driver Andy Wallace drove at Ehra-Lessien. The company presented a one-off version named the Chiron Profilée in late 2022, which sold at auction in Paris in February 2023. Production of the series concluded in May 2024 at the Molsheim factory with the 500th car, a Super Sport named L'Ultime finished in French Racing Blue and Atlantic Blue.
